Did you see Blood Diamond? Stellar!
Around here "it's bling bang, eh?"
"I like to get kissed before I get f_cked."
"T.I.A." This is Africa.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Djimon Hounsou are inspired
and I applaud their achievements. Additionally, Jennifer Connelly,
with little to work with, manages to make herself memorable. Honestly,
the story is compelling, and the cinematography is realistic while retaining
a somewhat romantic (pretty without feeling forced or posed) feel
but the remarkable performances by Leo and Djimon are most
impressive
. It's especially haunting to watch it again knowing
what's in store for each of these men. Sure, there are some
preachy elements
, but this is a powerful film worth watching.
"You sell blood diamonds, too...
We're in business together, get over yourself, doll."

You and I must have been watching a completely different movie.

that's entirely possible.
i am a bit of a sucker, and a
bit more of a romantic...add to that the fact that I went to film school and made a few of my own (blood sweat tears)...
and you might be able to "see" what I see. but maybe not.

what can i say? i'm honest, and often wrong.

I posted it when I saw it too and also loved this film. I agree that while preachy in parts, it is a worthwhile whole to watch!
P.S. Who knew Leo could be so hot?

Oh God.

You girls are just swooning over Leonardo and his unbuttoned shirt.

I went to four years of film school and one intensive summer at the Northwestern University Radio-TV-Film cherub program. I have shed enough blood sweat and tears to fill a gas tank.

I just thought Leonardo's guttural South African accent was about as authentic as I am Boricua.

When you go to see a movie like Eastern Promises it make Blood Diamond look lame. A couple of the actors are doing a true English accent ... based on the understanding that their character spent their childhood years in Russia ... and you can actually hear the subtle difference.

Was his shirt unbuttoned? I never noticed...
though I did notice Jennifer's open shirts...Oh wait, does that "reveal" something about me? haha

Overall, you may be right,
but 1) can anyone deny the Leo talent and/or charm without lying?
and 2) I was basing my respect for his accent on my own experiences...I lived with some South Africans (though, yes, he is supposed to be from...? sh_t, where?!) in Hawaii and his accent and fat-ish face struck me as entirely accurate. They were all beefy blonde beauties with accents akin to aussies or kiwis but ultimately obviously s.african.

Re: Eastern Promises~ Regretfully I have yet to see it...but I wonder, did you read the New Yorker review?
